Privacy Policy

Effective October 1, 2026 · Last updated October 1, 2026

Twine is a private date diary for two people. This policy explains what information the Twine app for iPhone ("Twine", "the app") collects, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. Twine is made by the Twine team ("we", "us"). If you have a question about anything here, email us at hello@twine.example.

The short version

  • We collect what the app needs to work: your email, your first name, the photos and details of the dates you log, and where they happened.
  • What you add is shared with one person — the partner you connect with — and nobody else. Your partner's photo of a date stays locked on our servers until you've both posted.
  • We don't show ads, we don't use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, we don't track you across other apps or websites, and we don't sell or share your personal information.
  • You can delete any date at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account and everything tied to it.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

Information collected when you use the app

We don't collect your contacts, browsing history, health, financial or advertising data. We don't use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs that collect usage data about you.

Stored only on your phone

The app keeps your sign-in session in the iOS Keychain (secure storage) and remembers your app color on the device so Twine opens in your color. This stays on your phone.

2. Device permissions

3. How we use information

We don't use your information for advertising, we don't build profiles of you for anyone else, and we don't use your photos or notes to train AI models.

4. Who can see your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

5. Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run Twine. They process information only to provide their service to us.

ProviderWhat they doWhat they receive
SupabaseHosts our database, sign-in and photo storageEverything stored in your account
Photon by Komoot (OpenStreetMap data)Place searchThe text you search for and your approximate area, without your name or account

6. No ads, no tracking

Twine contains no advertising and no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. We don't track you across apps and websites owned by other companies, and we don't ask for permission to track under Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework because we don't do it.

7. Keeping and deleting data

8. Your choices and rights

You can view and edit most of your information right in the app — your name, photo and app color in Settings, and your dates and ideas wherever they appear. You can also:

Depending on where you live — for example in the European Economic Area, the UK, or California and other U.S. states — you may have these rights by law. To use any of them, email hello@twine.example from the address on your account. We'll respond within 30 days and won't treat you differently for asking. If you're in the EEA or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority. Where these laws apply, we process your information to provide the service you asked for (performing our contract with you), with your consent for device permissions like location, and for our legitimate interest in keeping Twine secure.

9. Security

Information travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access rules on our servers — not just in the app — make sure only you and your partner can read your dates and photos, and your partner's photo for a date can't be read by anyone until you've both posted. Photos are kept in private storage, not at public links. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you if a breach affects you as the law requires.

10. Children

Twine is not directed to children and isn't meant for anyone under 13 (or the minimum age for digital consent where you live, if higher). We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

11. Where data is stored

Twine's data is stored with our hosting provider, which may be in the United States or another country different from yours. Where the law requires, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses for these transfers.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll let you know in the app before it takes effect.
